What happens now that I have booked Vivid Photography?
You will receive written confirmation from the studio confirming your booking, along with a receipt once the booking fee has been paid. Now it’s time to come up with some great themes for the shoot. We love to capture you and your family doing things you love to do... having fun, going on an adventure together, or just playing around the house. It’s great to create a theme though, and have some fun with the photography. Some ideas might be go and have ice cream, take a train ride, or in summer jump under the hose. The sky is the limit to what we can come up with.
How much time should we set aside for photography?
That all depends on the type of concept or theme we come up with. At Vivid we have no restrictions to our time with you. Our aim is to capture the essence of your lives, and if it takes longer than planned, we are there. Usually you should set aside at least 2 hrs.
What is the best time of day to take photographs?
It all depends on where we are taking the photographs. Vivid Photography mostly work with available light and therefore try to avoid dark areas in the home or on location. If we are indoors the time of day is not as important, however late afternoon is generally best for light outdoors. All that aside, the best time of the day to take photographs is when the little ones are at their best and are not too tired.
What if I hate posing for photos?
It is important that you understand your children love you the way you are. Yes the kids always look so cute compared to us parents, but you are their entire life and it is important you are photographed along with your children - it sets a good example. A good photographer is skilled in making people feel comfortable. They are able to create an atmosphere, mood or feeling that allows them to pose you in a fluid and fun way, in a way that will make your images look relaxed. The most important thing is to relax and be yourself.
What about red-eye & glasses?
Red eye is caused by amateur flash cameras and will not be an issue for a professional photographer. Glasses can present a few challenges to us such as unwanted glare which can effect the final image. Wearing non-reflective lenses can be a great help.
I have certain features that usually don’t photograph well. Can they be fixed?
We all tend to be a bit self-conscious about aspects of our appearance. If you are concerned you can discuss your concerns with us before the portrait sitting so we can suggest angles and poses that are the most flattering for you. Some things can be fixed in post-production, however minimizing problems on the day helps, as there can sometimes be an extra charge depending on the digital work involved.

What happens after the Portrait?
Your viewing appointment will be made at the portrait shoot, and you can book anything from two days after the portrait session. When arranging the viewing appointment, please arrange for a baby sitter or the grandparents to mind the young ones. Please ensure all decision makers are present at the viewing as this is your time to select your most loved images, and decide from the fantastic display options we offer. Feel free to enjoy coffee and chocolates, or a glass of wine whilst viewing your images.
What about the digital negatives?
All image files remain the property of Vivid Photography. We keep all image files on record indefinitely, however orders made after the viewing appointment are charged + %20 unless otherwise arranged.
How long will my portrait photos last?
The longevity of your images depends on their proper storage and care. As we only use professional products, your photographic or inkjet prints can last up to 200 years depending on the paper/ink combination and if stored in cool, dry conditions. All our products are archival quality that will give you decades enjoyment. Your images will be a family heirloom that you can pass on to successive generations.
Great tips for the portrait session:
-
Get the kids to bed on time the night before and keep them on the usual schedule.
-
Make sure Dad/Mum get enough time off work to cover the session time plus extra.
-
Avoid clothing which features text or logos etc or anything with strong patterning.
-
When coming up with a theme don’t hold back, put effort into the planning.
-
Don’t always expect to smile at the camera. Not all moments are smiley moments, and some of the nicest images are more reserved. Having said that, be prepared to go crazy! If we ask you to do some crazy things, just go with the flow and enjoy the experience.
-
Leave the kids to us! We may ask you to watch from a distance so don’t be offended. It’s great if the kids can just do what they do best, and that is be cheeky, wild, shy, or just playing with their toys on their own.
